Hazelnut-Chocolate Praline Ice Cream Torte
Method

A heavenly Torte!!!


  • Cut the store bought cakes into thin slices and set aside. It is preferable to use marble cakes for a prettier two toned effect.
  • Cover a deep 30 cm bowl with 3 layers of plastic wrap. Wrap securely so that the ice cream won’t stick to the bowl. Set aside.
  • Pour the milk into a deep bowl and put in a microwave, set at 800 watts, for 1 minute. It should be lukewarm.
  • Beat the chilled heavy cream in a mixer’s bowl, until it turns into whipped cream. Use a spatula to transfer whipped cream to a separate bowl.
  • In the mixer’s bowl, add 2/3 of the hazelnut-chocolate praline and lukewarm milk. Beat on low speed until the mixture is completely combined. If the mixture is still warm at this point, refrigerate for 1 hour, until chilled. If it is at room temperature, then add the whipped cream and gently fold in with a spatula. If you freeze the mixture at this point, you will have a very tasty hazelnut-chocolate praline ice cream!
  • Spread the hazelnuts, whole, on a baking sheet and toast for 10-15 minute, in a 180* C (350* F) Fan, preheated oven, until golden.
  • Cover the interior of the bowl you covered in plastic wrap with a layer of the cake slices.  Add some dollops of the extra 1/3 of hazelnut-chocolate praline sauce over the cake slices. Add some hazelnuts and cover with 1/3 of the whipped cream. Add some more pieces of cake and some more hazelnuts. Top with another 1/3 of whipped cream. Repeat process until all of the ingredients are used up, but reserve some slices of cake to add over the torte at the end. This will create the base for the torte when we turn it over.
  • Enclose the layers created with plastic wrap. Press down gently to remove any excess air. Place in freezer. It will not become rock hard, so it can be sliced easily, without it having to thaw. You can remove it from the freezer and serve immediately.
  • For the chocolate ganache, add the heavy cream and chocolate couverture to a small bowl. Cover with plastic wrap and place in a microwave set at 800 watts, for 1 ½ minutes. Remove and stir with a spoon until the mixture is completely homogenous.
  • Pour slowly over torte and sprinkle with hazelnuts!
