Triangular, square, round or…. submarines… On sandwich bread, a small loaf, rustique bread or brioche, in pizza dough “bread”, croissants or wrapped in fresh pita bread… The list goes on and on, it’s truly never ending – as far as the bread selection and the filling (which can be anything from ham, cheese, tomato and lettuce all the way to meatballs, potatoes and a spicy cheese spread)! There is no doubt about it; a sandwich can even make up an entire meal and depending on the ingredients, it can be super healthy or completely junk food! No matter what the case may be, a sandwich is a quick and tasty way to satisfy your hunger any time of day and anywhere you are… not just tone it down.
Keeping all this in mind, I decided to substitute some of the basic meals of the week (weekdays, not weekends) with…. sandwiches! That’s right! I’m serious! One sandwich for each day… You can have it for breakfast, a midday snack, lunch, afternoon snack, or dinner – the choice is yours! At home, at school, at work or in the park… Luckily you have so many choices and a healthy appetite!
Monday: The sandwich… dish!
This type of sandwich can hold anything from a whole… salad, to leftovers and become a complete (and filling) meal! I’ve chosen it for Monday, since you can any kind of Sunday leftovers to fill it with (ex. meat, ground meat, meatballs, roasted or boiled chicken, burger patties and even your Sunday dinner salad!). You can add vegetables and a homemade sauce that you can make quickly and easily in just a few minutes.
Tuesday: The open faced sandwich
Look at this! You can even make a… pizza on the bread! Toasted or fresh, with countless ingredients put together to create a delicious, colorful tower. Vegetables are great for this choice and at some level (at the base or on somewhere higher up) you can also add an egg (fried, poached or an omelet).
Wednesday: Club sandwich day
They say that the name club sandwich came about since this type of sandwich was first served in American clubs (like sports clubs etc.). I’m more interested in its taste than its name! There is nothing better than something that is so amazingly tasty and so easy to make! The truth is that there are so many reasons to add a club sandwich into your… lives! Quick and easy to make, tasty, nutritious, easy to take with you and everyone loves it.
Thursday: Have you ever heard of … Tramezzini;
Don’t be quick to answer! I’m sure you know them. They are those small, square sandwiches that are called tramezzini (everyone else calls them… small square sandwiches!). What’s important though, is not their name but how they eat them! They eat them day and night, filled with anything you can imagine… - there is even a sweet version!
Friday: The sweetest…. sandwich
Just one step away from the weekend.. you can relax and treat your loved ones with the most delicious, sweet sandwiches! You can enjoy them for breakfast or a snack at noon or later in the afternoon to recharge your batteries. To make them, you can use bread, sweet bread, croissants and even cookies!
Chocolate Dipped Turkish Delight Cookies (These are sandwiches too! Sandwich cookies!)
