20 homemade cakes that will drive you wild…

Big or small…. Full of calories or a little healthier… Plain or with a glaze… with a buttercream frosting or simply sprinkled with some icing sugar… With fruit, chocolate, nuts… Easy or a little more difficult.. Classic or modern… Any way a cake may be, one thing is certain: If it is made in the right way, it can really drive us wild.. from its amazing aroma to its fluffy texture, to its rich – full, sweet – taste! For all of these reasons..  (and more!) the cake, undoubtedly deserves its own special… celebration! This day is none other than the 26th of November -  a day dedicated to this much loved sweet which, of course can be enjoyed in a more savory version (that we will get into at a later date)!

The history of the cake begins from ancient Greece (just as all wonderful things!) and from Egypt. The cakes in those days were nothing like the fluffy, perfectly amazing sweets we all know and love today… They were dry, less fluffy and were usually accompanied by honey and nuts that were eaten as a dessert. Later, the Romans began to help this magical recipe.. evolve... creating more rich and luscious mixtures. They did not take long to add the creamy element that not only took the flavor of the cake to new heights but also the appearance… aaand the calories. Slowly, people started to make the recipe better and better. They made more complicated versions creating super extraordinary cakes but also oversimplified the recipe, cramming all of the ingredients into a small bag that only needed some milk, some beating and baking before it turned into a sensational sweet!

In order to celebrate this day, I thought I would put together a collection of 20 of my favorite recipes and share them with you. My idea is as follows: Arrange a get together with your friends and enjoy your very own Cake Day! Make plans for each one of you to make and bring their own homemade cake. Choose your favorite one from my collection and into the kitchen you go! Take pictures while you are making it, when it comes out of the oven and when you are digging into it with pleasure! I can’t wait to see them all, one by one!!!

Some things are worth celebrating – especially when we are talking about one of the most delicious things that the human mind invented!! :-)
