Christmas Kitchen Lab Live!

This Saturday we did something that has never before happened in Greece! We had our first Greek live cooking show on You Tube and it was BIG!

And it was very difficult!! You have to come up with 8-9 recipes that are prepared during the show… make them in the correct order so that there are not gaps in time… they need to be interesting… have a story to tell and be holiday worthy!!!

All of the ingredients have to be bought and prepped.

Everyone needs to know where to go and what to do and what to be ready for every second!

All of it has to be done right because there is of course no editing in a live show!! It all has to be very carefully planned out AND very carefully executed because I don’t even want to think about what would happen if we dropped the turkey!! :-) 

Apart from the recipes, there needs to be a large crew with cameras, sound engineers, directors etc. that can handle everything that is going on in a professional manner…

After finding the right recipes and the right crew, we had to prepare a script of some sort so I wouldn’t have to cook on my own for so long. I would need to take a break from talking all the time and also the counter had to be cleaned continuously as I walk around during the live broadcast…

If you notice, upon the completion of each recipe I would take off somewhere so that my assistants could clean up and set up all of the ingredients for the next recipe. Everything of course was weighed earlier and all of the dirty bowls, pots, pans, and utensils would be taken to the kitchen next door, where Mrs. Sophia would wash up and clean everything in sight nonstop!!

But I kept thinking… were the recipes good enough? Were they too many? Too few? How could we be sure we could pull them off correctly?

We had a run through with all the recipes where I cooked them in real time. Checked everything down to the last detail of what baking dishes and what serving plates and platters would be used so that we could be sure that the time we had was enough and to feel sure that everything would be presented and done perfectly!

And finally it all went well! I think we really had a great result that made us all very happy!

If you haven’t seen it yet, watch it and let us know what you think! It’s better to watch it live of course but I think that even the taped version doesn’t lose too much of the great, dynamic and positive energy we all had!

We were on fire!! For 4 hours live and another 4-5 hours earlier where we were all running around panic stricken to get everything ready!!

I’d like to thank all of my staff at Kitchen Lab for all of their hard work. They had never done anything like this before either and I think they all did GREAT!

I wouldn’t have been able to get through such a production on my own, so I’m bursting with pride for them all! Thanks guys!

It was a great success and everyone who watched it really loved it. Each minute there were over 4.000 people watching us! Amazing!

When it was all over I felt like I had been working for 2 days nonstop! I was really anxious and stressed! I wanted so much for everything to work out perfectly for all of you and to show you that apart from all of the work you can actually see on screen, there is so much work going on behind the scenes…
