The trend that is here to change your cooking

I don’t know if you keep up with the trends that are in every year regarding cooking. Personally, I like looking into them a lot – not only because it is my profession, but also, because I really love cooking and everything that relates to it. So, today, I decided to talk to you about one of those trends, which is here to change the way with which we cook, by introducing us to one of the most “powerful” cuisines of 2019. This is none other than the Sri Lankan cuisine. Until recently, it was included in Indian cuisine. Now, though, it becomes...independent and it comes to light by carrying along incredible flavors and aromas, but also a philosophy which is worth knowing and loving. Why? For 3 simple reasons:

  1. It loves vegetables. Yes, Sri Lankan cuisine loves vegetables and shows that through its recipes. So, we’re talking about…colorful, tasty recipes full of nutrients that are valuable to our body. At this point, it is worth mentioning the coconut milk that we regularly come across and that acts as a booster to the flavor of each recipe.
  2. It says no to (a lot of) meat. Fish comes to the fore, and it is actually combined with a thousand ingredients (mainly spices!). Apart from that, of course, there is also the rice that plays an important part in this cuisine; it’s sometimes presented as a side dish while other times as a main dish, enhanced with all sorts of spices and other ingredients.
  3. It is full of spices. What does that mean? Flavors…so many flavors. And aromas. Lots of aromas. The intensity can range from…recipe to recipe, but -mainly- it depends on your taste. Some people might like their food spicy, while others love the…milder versions of spices. In any case, curry, nutmeg, cardamom, and many many other spices play an important part in this cuisine.

Based on all of the above, we could say that Sri Lankan cuisine comes a little closer to ours. What do I mean? That it may sound…exotic, it may include weird names (some recipes are quite hard to pronounce), but its ingredients are a lot closer to ours than we ever imagined. As for its flavors? You will have to try them before you answer! For this reason, I prepared for you four amazing, traditional recipes of this special country. All you have to do is try them and send me your feedback :-)
