Happy Lent!

Lent, the period of fasting has already begun! As you all know it lasts 7 weeks total. Some people fast for religious purposes while others want to detox…

Whatever your reasons for fasting are, I’m always here to offer tasty recipes for any occasion! I find that when the food you eat is tastier, it makes fasting easier! I would even go as far as saying that some of the recipes I have for you, that are suitable for fasting are even tastier than the regular ones and of course they are healthier!

I have chosen recipes made by our members, both traditional and original that are really worth making!

Many of the ingredients used in these recipes are exceptionally nutritious!

Tahini and honey offer high nutritional value and are the protagonists in these recipes for Lent.

Tahini is rich in minerals, calcium, vitamins E and B, helps promote healthy cell growth, and is high in unsaturated fat, which is good fat!

Honey is a natural sweetener, is full of minerals, enzymes, antioxidants and is free of fat and cholesterol!

So let’s start off with these great Tahini Buns by Andrie Nikolaou…

Nuts are also very nutritional. They are rich in protein, antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and omega-3 fatty acids!

So I chose this very, very delicious Dairy Free Apple Pie sent in by Anthie Christodoulou… and added some walnuts to her recipe…!

Raisins are dried grapes. They are rich in vitamins, electrolytes, minerals, antioxidants and fiber!

I could not leave this wonderful recipe off the list! It is a traditional St. Fanourios Cake sent in by Vicky Vasiliou…. and I snuck in some raisins!!

Now for some chocolate! You know I had to have a recipe with chocolate! Most of us cannot go without chocolate especially while fasting. Eating dark chocolate is much healthier than milk chocolate. It provides you with energy, fat, minerals and antioxidants.

Try this absolutely delicious recipe… Chocolate and Fruit Spring Rolls sent in by Sintages Panos….

All of these ingredients used are a great source of energy!

I chose all sweet recipes for you this time! I guess I had a sweet tooth! So next time I will come back with some deliciously savory recipes!

I’d like to thank everyone for sending in such an endless array of creative and tasty recipes! Keep them coming and keep on cooking and creating! I’m impressed!
