Some words about...pistachios!

Hello there!!

Well, autumn is at the door, schools are now open and Christmas is less than 100 days away! This is a really lovely time of the year for me as so many fruit and nuts are ready to harvest…

Apples, pears and most nuts like walnuts, pistachios, chestnuts..

Today Ι am going to give you some information about pistachios and share some of my favourite recipes Ι have with that wonderful nut!

It is the fruit of a tree that reaches a good ten meters in hight… The tree is loves heat and can tolerate salinity in the ground so you can grow it by the sea or even water it with water that contains a lot more soluble salts than normal.

There are male and female trees. Also another tree that is in the same family is the Mastic tree…

The origin of the pistachio tree is from the central Asia and middle East and has been a stable food for people in the region for more than 7.000 years…

It can be used in savoury and sweet recipes..

Some of my favourite ones are:

 Pistachio Crusted Roasted Lamb Chops

 Pistachio Ice Cream

Strawberry and Pistachio Cake

Apple Pistachio Nut Cake with Honey Apple Topping

Cannoli with a Lemon Cream and Pistachio Filling

 Pistachio & Almond Liqueur Truffles
