Everything in its own time…..

There is a time for everything…..           

Seasonal fruit and vegetables or is it every season’s fruit and vegetables? Nowadays we seem to expect to have all kinds of fruit and vegetables no matter what season it is and take this for granted. It is always better though, to allow the seasons to determine what fruits we should consume!

It is very important to consume in season fruit and vegetables since this is a way to be sure that what you are eating is in the strongest and purest form possible. This is why I have prepared a list for you my friends! A list with all the fruits and vegetables you should look for in the farmer’s markets, in small neighborhood grocery shops or in super markets each month of the year!

All you need to do is check the list every month and try to shop as “in season” as possible! ;-)

WINTER 

December

Fruit: Kiwi, grapefruit, oranges, lemons, lotuses, mushrooms, bananas, avocados.

Vegetables: Chicory, carrots. leeks, potatoes, celery, cauliflower, Brussel sprouts, rocket leaves, frizzy lettuce, spinach, beetroots, chard, lettuce, broccoli, finocchio, turnips, dill, parsley, spring onions, mushrooms.

January

Fruit: Oranges, mandarins, grapefruit, lemons, apples, kiwi, bananas, avocados.

Vegetables: Dill, broccoli, parsley, beetroots, chard, leeks, peaches, turnips, lettuce, Brussel sprouts, cabbage, celery, finocchio, spinach, cauliflower, carrots, zucchini, spring onions, kale, rocket leaves, artichokes, frizzy lettuce.

February

Fruit: Oranges, mandarins, grapefruit, lemons, apples, bananas, avocados.  

Vegetables: Dill, broccoli, parsley, mushrooms, beetroot, chard, leeks, chicory, turnips, lettuce, Brussel sprouts, cabbage, celery, finochio, radishes, rocket leaves, potatoes,  frizzy lettuce, spinach, cauliflower, carrots, spring onions, artichokes.

  

SPRING

March

Fruit: Oranges, mandarins, lemons, apples, bananas, avocados.

Vegetables: Dill, broccoli, parsley, beetroots, chard, leeks, chicory, turnips, lettuce, Brussel sprouts, cabbage, celery, finocchio, spinach, cauliflower, carrots, artichokes, peas, radishes, white and green asparagus, spring onions, mushrooms, rocket leaves, frizzy lettuce.

 

April

Fruit: Oranges, mandarins, lemons, apples, strawberries, avocados.

Vegetables: Zucchini, beetroots, broad beans (or fava beans), turnips, radishes, spring onions, garlic, artichokes, dill, peas, carrots, cauliflower, spring onions, cabbage, chicory, Brussel sprouts, lettuce, broccoli, leeks, asparagus, chard, spinach, frizzy lettuce.

May

Fruit: Valencia Oranges, apricots, strawberries, loquat, cherries, early melons, nectarines, avocados.

Vegetables: Blites, green beans, cabbage, zucchini, early cucumbers, chard, early eggplants, bell peppers, dill, chicory, peas, carrots, frizzy lettuce, parsley, fennel, broad beans, tomatoes, lettuce, beetroots, radishes, celery, artichokes, dill, spinach, asparagus, broccoli, onions.
