It’s been almost a week since the day of my -5th- book launch event and I can still hear beautiful wishes, I can still see your smiles in front of me, and I can still feel the warmth that surrounded me from the moment the event started.
The reasons? Plenty. First of all, the people. All these friends and colleagues that are behind this wonderful cookbook. The Psichogios Publications team that will make sure my book goes all over Greece, and all of my other friends whom I may not know personally, but I know that they support me every step of the way and I realize that in every event where they come to chat and take a picture.
Next reason? The venue! The Kitchen Lab in Glyfada – a place that I love as my second home and that I try to visit as often as possible since both its ambiance and its people boost my mood right away. Last reason; the food! Yes, the food was another element that contributed in having a wonderful time that night since, for the event, we created some of the tastiest and most classic recipes within the pages of “Street Food”! That way, our friends had the chance to -literally!- have a taste of the cookbook :-)
However, while talking about this event, I realized that I have not mentioned the motive behind it yet. In this brand-new book, where we managed to gather aromas and flavors of the most original dishes all around the world! Dishes that are simple, with intense flavors and powerful traditions, that were created in kitchens on the street, in alleys and markets, in order to satisfy the hunger of passers-by in no time. Meals that are low-cost and that can be eaten on the street. This is street food and it managed -as the years went by- to evolve from a quick solution to the ultimate gastronomic obsession!
Through ongoing research, many travels and even more tests, we ended up with 120 recipes that bring street food to your home’s kitchen! Their common characteristic? The “pure” raw materials, the simple preparations, their originality. You will find them all in my own “Street Food” – a book where food stars in its purest, simplest, most original version.
