Watermelon IS summer! It is available from mid-June but it is at its sweetest in July and August!
It is one of the most refreshing fruits since it is made up of 91% water!
It contains Vitamin C, large quantities of carotenoids, is a slight diuretic and is very beneficial to our health.
Where do watermelons come from?
You can see watermelons in Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics!
They were cultivated in China in the 10th century and made their appearance in Europe in the 13th century!
They can be stored in the refrigerator, cut into pieces and wrapped in plastic wrap, for 2-3 days.
Watermelon is one of my favorite fruit and that’s why I dedicated a whole day in the Kitchen Lab to prepare delicious recipes with watermelon, both sweet and savory!
I’m going to start off with an unbelievably summery recipe… Watermelon Cheesecake, which was sent in by our member Panagiotis Theodoritsis. It is a super refreshing and easy recipe you will all enjoy!
If you prefer something more traditional and have some leftover watermelon, try making a Watermelon Spoon Sweet! This recipe was sent in by our member Katerina Tsoutsa and it really impressed me! I added some mastic liqueur to give it more of a Greek aroma!
Have you ever tried or even heard about Watermelon Pie? It is actually a traditional Greek recipe they make in the Cyclades, a group of islands in the Aegean Sea. Unfortunately, one of the first times I tried this unusual pie, it was more of a sweet mush. But if you find one that is really well-made… it is amazing!
I thought I’d come up with my own recipe to make sure everyone gets to eat great watermelon pie! It is actually a very simple recipe to make.
The trick is to get a very tasty watermelon and to let it strain from most of its liquid!
Have you ever made Watermelon Pudding? It is a beautiful, light and refreshing dessert with a cream-like texture!
For those of you on vacation who might want something tasty, energizing and full of vitamins… I highly recommend a Watermelon Smoothie! It will keep you going all day long!
If you want to make something delicious to spread on your bread, waffles or pancakes for breakfast, you definitely need to make Watermelon Jelly! It goes very nicely with cheese too!
These 2 last recipes will impress everyone by appearance alone! They are served in such a smart way that will get even the pickiest of kids to eat fruit!
For those of you who like to combine watermelon with salty ingredients, I recommend this sensational, savory Watermelon Pizza!
For those of you who are not a fan of this type of blending of tastes, I recommend the sweet version of this pizza!
These are some of the coolest watermelon recipes I came up with for these warm summer days and nights!
