Time to Detox!

The holidays have come and gone… They left a sweet feeling in our soul and some extra kilos on our bodies!

The Christmas tree has been put away, the sparkling lights are all gone, leaving a slight melancholy in the air… Now what?

Apart from all of the great goals we set for the New Year about what we have to do or not do, look out for etc. another important goal should be to start taking care of our bodies…

You guys might be like “What are you on about Akis?? Aren’t YOU the one posting all about sweets, sweets, sweets and calories, calories, calories?!

Well! I don’t mean for you to make all of the recipes all at once! You can also make the simpler ones! But in my defense people… any time I share some great soup, NO ONE really checks it out unless I add some chocolate in the mix!!!

So! How about we talk a little bit about nutrition and detoxing?

What are all these toxins and why are they so important and even bad?

Our body comes into contact with thousands of chemical substances every day. From the things that we eat and from what our body comes into contact with like water, air and even the clothes we wear… Don’t forget that our own body creates toxins due to our metabolism.

So we have all of these bad substances entering our bodies. Can they go away?

Of course! Our bodies are designed to recognize these toxins and get rid of them. The liver and the kidneys take on this responsibility and remove the toxins through urine, sweat and the lymph nodes.

Since nowadays the pollution is constantly increasing.. there are more pesticides and other substances that stay on our food and even through the tea we drink, our bodies find it harder to cope with all of this bombardment of toxins.

Not to mention the bad effects of stress which makes things even harder for our bodies to get rid of the toxins since stress actually creates more toxins..

It is time to do something about all of this! I could give you some recipes for juices since we believe that juices are what we need to consume in order to detox our bodies.

If you consume just juices, you will lose weight, your stomach won’t feel so bloated but this is not what will help you detox since the weight you will lose will not be from fat but from muscle and liquids and you will gain it back almost immediately.

You need other things. Fruits and vegetables should be a part of your everyday nutrition and not just used for detoxing.

The foods you consume should be low in fats. The amount of water you should drink daily is 2-3 liters. It can be in the form of water or why not even herbal teas like verbena, hawthorn or mountain tea etc…

Of course you should never forget exercising which is essential to “motivating” our body and remove as many toxins as possible.

I want to share some recipes that are quite nutritious, tasty and above all good for our bodies. Let’s take a look at them in detail:
