Food swaps: make your favorite recipes healthier

Is there tastier cooking than…smart cooking? “No!”, I will answer you! Smart cooking can help us make our dishes even more delicious or show us ways to save raw materials and use any leftovers in the best possible way. So, today, I decided to show you one more way to cook smartly. It is a tactic that is becoming more and more well-known abroad, while it is slowly spreading to the Greek cuisine too. This is none other than the Food Swap. What does that mean? I will explain it right away! Let’s say that you want to find smart ways to boost your sweet and savory dishes with some nutrient-rich ingredients like e.g. fruits and vegetables. You may want to do that for several reasons:

  1. Your kids (or even yourselves!) do not eat enough vegetables and you want to trick them into that.
  2. You follow a special diet, e.g. gluten-free, but you do not want to exclude some of your favorite recipes.
  3. You want to follow a healthier lifestyle, without being deprived of your favorite treats.

How will you do all that? By replacing some simple ingredients of a recipe (actually, even one ingredient can make an incredible difference!), which will add another dimension to your food! I am referring to some simple, small changes that can have a direct impact on your diet, enriching it with valuable nutrients. This gives you the ability to choose which version of your favorite food you want to enjoy. Besides, the important thing is to have plenty of choices so that, each time, you will be able to pick the one that suits you best. In the following lines, you will find 6 unique and smart food swaps of some all-time favorite recipes that will make a change not only to your kitchen but also to your diet!

Let’s start with this wonderful Pizza with cauliflower crust! A delicious pizza that is gluten-free and has only 211 calories/ 100 g; so, you can enjoy it any time of the day.

Lastly, I have for you two desserts! One of them is a unique version of the classic chocolate mousse and it is none other than the Chocolate avocado mousse with orange. A flavorful, light, vegan version of your favorite dessert with the avocado being used instead of butter and -along with the other ingredients- it gives your dessert a rich, soft, velvety texture.
