Quinoa crispy cakes: they’re here to stay!

You must be wondering what these quinoa crispy cakes are, how to make them, and why I prepared this recipe for you… Firstly, I’ll start with the quinoa that is another food considered to be a superfood. Some of you will possibly try it and love it, while others will simply not want to add it to your diet! It’s a matter of taste after all! What’s certain is that it’s a very nutrient-dense food, suitable for vegetarians or vegans, but also for people who follow a gluten-free or dairy-free diet.

The truth is that I’ve talked to you about this pseudocereal again, and I’ve mentioned its high nutritional value. I believe that even the name of this particular food sparks your curiosity… The fact that it is high in protein, fiber, vitamins, and minerals, but also the fact that it is pretty low in calories – specifically, 117 calories in 100 g of cooked quinoa – are some of the reasons why it is worth adding it to your diet.

In fact, when we compare quinoa to other types of cereal, we see that it is higher in protein and in lysine, and it is considered to be a complete food due to the fact that it contains all the necessary amino acids for the body. It is also a good source of folic acid, magnesium, iron, and manganese. It is cultivated in North America and studies show that consuming quinoa, and specifically beverages that contain it, benefits people who suffer from type 2 diabetes and hypertension.

So, keep in mind that it is a food which can be added to a balanced diet and it can help you maintain a healthy weight or even lose weight – provided that it is combined with the proper foods and not with the ones that will add extra calories to your body. In fact, I read that it was the main “cereal” of the Incas and they believed that the consumption of quinoa improved their warriors’ stamina. This is not something that I can guarantee for, but I prepared for you several recipes that you can try and see what exactly it offers to your body (check the recipes at the end of the blog)!

Shall we get to the quinoa crispy cakes now? I see that a lot of people are using rice cakes or corn cakes as a midday or afternoon snack by combining them in several ways. So, I decided to innovate and make these quinoa crispy cakes for you. Take a look at the foods with which I combined them and I believe that you’ll be as amazed as I am; the quinoa crispy cake will slowly become a part of your diet! Especially for a person who follows an intensive workout or an athlete, it could be the ideal pre-workout meal!

Remember that quinoa is a good alternative and you can add it to your plate instead of rice, potato, or pasta, or even make delicious salads with it and combine it with legumes and vegetables. In fact, the quinoa flakes can be combined with oats and added to your diet too, for breakfast or a snack!
