A few days ago I gave you some options for ice creams and popsicles below 100 calories... What would you say, if I prepared a list of cocktails low on calories as well as a little treat for all of you?
Since, it’s summer and most of us enjoy the cocktails more during summer than during winter, I decided to give you some alternatives for those of you that don’t want to “drink” lots of calories! I know that also lots of you may follow a specific diet and you overthink about it when you want to have an alcoholic drink.
Truth is, it’s hard to find a cocktail that has less than 150 calories. The important thing is not to combine lots of different alcohols in the same cocktail and not to add a lot of sugar and sweeteners! So, you can see below which drink you can have without completely ruining your health or your diet.
Martini is James Bond’s favorite drink. Lots of people like it with an olive. Have you ever tried drinking it with watermelon juice? Since it’s summer and watermelon is one of our favorite summer fruits, we eat it as a mid-day or afternoon snack, it has a large concentration of water and it's low on calories (33 calories per 100 g), why not trying it inside a cocktail? Trust me, the taste will surprise you. It only contains 128 calories per portion!
I know that ladies love it – and I hope it’s not just because of fashion, but because you like it. This cocktail has 150 calories per portion and contains cranberry and grapefruit juice. Cranberry juice helps in removing alcohol from the body and improves hydration process. Of course, it does contain alcohol (it’s a drink after all) and sugars and it’s better not to overdo it with it.
This is another drink that I’ve noticed ladies like a lot. Did you know it contains only 99 calories per portion and it’s ideal for people who are gluten -intolerant? Actually, it’s like drinking a glass of wine that tastes like pomegranate. And pomegranate (for those of you that didn’t know) is rich in antioxidants, fibers and vitamins C and Β6 (of course when you have it as a fruit). Choose it in case you want to have one extra drink.
Do you like the refreshing taste of lime and peppermint of a Mojito cocktail but you are worried due to the high concentration of sugars? That’s okay… I have the solution for you. I have a Mojito cocktail that contains less calories and sugars than a regular Mojito. To be more precise, it has 154 calories and 6,6 grams of sugars per portion. Thus, you can enjoy it and feel a bit less guilty about it!
A different wine that contains only 104 calories. Okay, it’s not a cocktail but it’s tasty and has very little calories, especially if you compare it to other alcoholic drinks. It contains cherry leaves, red wine and brandy or cognac. It is ideal for those that follow a Mediterranean diet and always want to have a glass of red wine along with their food. Try it and I’m waiting to hear how it was!
This drink combines wine and beer. It’s ideal for those of you that love dark beer and bitter tastes. It contains only 102 calories per portion and is a different drink compared to those you’re used to. Maybe some of you don’t like the idea of having bitter taste, but it’s definitely something you can have along with your dinner or when you’re watching World Cup matches!
This beer is ideal for gentlemen who watch their diet but want to drink some kind of cocktail while watching TV. It contains 141 calories per portion. It also has a refreshing taste due to the ginger and the lemon juice give it a special taste. Ginger is a spice that has anti-inflammatory properties and helps with digestion while may help in curing nausea. Something important, in the case of overdrinking.
It contains only 119 calories per portion and rum – is there a better cocktail for this summer? Definitely the apple juice, the lemon and the ginger will give a very special taste to your rum. If you’re like Jack Sparrow and like rum a lot (and lemon juice as well), this is the perfect drink for you, especially if you’re trying to find drinks low on calories! However, I’ve already said that, you must not overconsume anything, much less alcohol.
I think the options above will be enough for this summer for those of you following a specific diet or a healthy lifestyle. Remember, always have a glass of water along with your drink. That way, you will avoid getting drunk and you will also avoid the hangover of the next day, staying hydrated at the same time. In addition, you must remember that overconsumption of alcohol will lead to body weight gain and a greater craving for food. For that reason, keep the balance while having your drink.
