Tips
How to chop onions
To slice your onion
- Cut a peeled onion in half.
- Place one half of the onion face down on to the chopping board and place your fingers at the edge.
- Tuck the tips of your fingertips, so that they are not exposed.
- Begin slicing downwards with your knife.
- The side of the blade of the knife should slide off and away from your fingers preventing any injuries.
- The knife should slice through the onion all the way through.
- When you have sliced about ¾ of the onion turn the remaining piece of onion down and continue slicing.
- You should have nice, clean cut slices.
- Repeat with the other half.
To dice your onion
- Cut a peeled onion in half.
- Rotate so that the root is facing away from you.
- Don’t slice the onion all the way to the edge, leave some root joined.
- Rotate and star slice it again, creating little cubes.
- The knife should slice through the onion all the way through, until it makes contact with your chopping board.
- When you have reached the root which is joined turn it down and continue.
- You should have nice, clean cut cubes! A perfectly diced onion!
- Repeat with the other half.
