The mandarine is the fruit of the mandarin tree... a small citrus tree. It looks very much like an orange, though it is smaller and ellipsoid in shape.

They are usually eaten raw or added to fruit salads but also give a wonderful aroma to cooked dishes and stuffings! 

They originated in China... hence the name! They are now cultivated in many countries such as Spain and Greece, especially on the islands of Crete and Chios.

The mandarin's healing properties were very well known, especially in Chinese traditional medicine. They have been known to help with digestion, reduce blood pressure and help reduce the risk of cancer.
