Where do they come from?
One of my favorite summer fruits with a wonderful aroma which is rich in vitamins A and C as well as plenty of antioxidants. Apricots originated in China where they were cultivated more than 4.000 years ago. The Ancient Greeks and Romans were introduced to them as an imported good that came from Armenia which is why they were first named “Armenian apples”. It is said that Alexander the Great brought them with him when he returned from the depths of Asia.
When should they be planted?
Apricot season in Greece begins at the end of May and lasts until the mid-August (depending on the variety).
Apricots need a quite cold winter. It cannot bloom in more southern regions where the winters are mild.
